Job Week 2011

Dear Parents/Scouts/Ventures/Rovers,

Job Week is an annual fund-raising event that will be carried out from Sat 12 Mar to Fri 18 Mar. The main purpose of the Job Week is to inculcate in Scouts the dignity of labour and the value of honest work. Scouting provides fundamental and foundational training in the inculcating of these intangibles. The values, no doubt will enable the Scouts to be better leaders and citizens of tomorrow in our affluent society. It helps Scouts to understand the need to render service before they go out to earn money for their Units and for the Association. The concept of service before self; service to the community and the nation is an important aspect and an integral part of the Scout Training. It emphasizes that Scouts must perform a job in order to earn the funds and not to beg for donations. The funds raised will be used to finance training and programme activities for our Scouts to prepare them for a purposeful and responsible adulthood, always ready to serve God, Country and Humanity.

The Scout must
* maintain a positive Scouting image and uphold the good name of the Scout Movement.
* perform jobs only within the stipulated period, i.e. 0900h to 1900h daily from 12 to 18 Mar 2011 unless specially arranged by their Unit Leaders.
* observe the standing instructions printed on the Job Week card.
* wear the correct uniform in public and working attire when performing jobs.(Recruits should wear a Scout T-shirt and scarf)
* perform jobs in two or three, never alone.
* not to follow any stranger to anywhere, in any building or premises.
* carry what they need for the jobs in their bags or knapsacks, not in plastic or
shopping bags.
* know when and how to decline a job that is too difficult to handle
* say “thank you”, issue the Job Done cards after performing the task and be courteous at all times.
* make a police report for Job Week card stolen or lost and to indicate the amount collected.

Congratulations!

Dear all,
I am pleased to announce that our Scout Troop and Venture Unit have both achieved the GOLD awards for 2010. This is the 4th consecutive Gold for our Ventures and the 2nd consecutive Gold for our Scouts. Kudos to all the teachers, adult leaders, parents and of course our ventures and scouts who have made all these possible. Nonetheless, awards are purely recognition of efforts and we will continue to remain true to our values in moulding the characters of our Ventures and Scouts and to guide them to become better persons.

Mr. Lincoln Chan

Orientation Camp (11-13 Feb) 2011

Dear Scouts,

do be reminded that tomorrow is the start of our Orientation Camp and do bring along all necessary equipment. Attendance is compulsory and parents will be informed if you do not turn up without any valid reasons.

For the Sec 1s:
You should have already prepared your Scout Uniform (with the badges sewn on the shirt and beret badge attached to the beret) as you will be wearing them for the Investiture Ceremony held on Saturday night.

In case of any misunderstanding, the reason why i told you to cross out the items 1, 5, 10 and 13 is because those items have been bought and that you still have to bring them to camp.

Mr. Lincoln Chan

  4. Methods of water proofing of items.
  5. Basic knowledge of what a good backpack is and its functions.
Should there be any questions, do feel free to email me at Crux_Ventures@yahoo.com.sg . Thank you.
