Campfire Preparation Dates

Dear Parents / Guardians,
Our Scout Group will be holding our much-anticipated 52nd Annual Campfire this year, on 18 June 2011, Saturday.

A Campfire is an annual (bi-annual for some units) event whereby Scouts and Guides from the various secondary schools and pre-university institutes gather for a night of fun and in commemoration of the Scouting spirit. It is also a showcase of our members’ talents and skills in planning, organization, initiation and aesthetics (performances) to other units.

Being one of the oldest Scout Units in Singapore, we have proudly held a Campfire for every year since 1959. This year is no exception, marking a significant milestone in our Group’s rich history.

Therefore, in preparation for this important and jubilant event, there will be an increase in training and preparation sessions for the Scouts after their mid-year examinations. This is not only to ensure that preparations for the various campfire departments are adequate and well, but to also give your son / ward an insight into campfire (events) planning and organization as well as for them to progress in the aspects of our core skills such as leadership and pioneering.

Please note that attendance is compulsory for these trainings / preparations and will be taken as part of your son / ward’s overall CCA attendance. We understand that your family may be away for overseas trips and your son / ward will be expected to produce a Medical Certificate or a letter of excuse acknowledged by you if he is unable to attend any of the trainings. I have communicated with a few parents earlier on that we will try to hold the campfire in the early weeks of June but unable to do so due to time constraints. We seek your understanding in this matter.

The preparation dates are as follows:
Wed 1-Jun 0745 - 1230
Fri 3-Jun 0745 - 1230
Mon 6-Jun 0745 - 1230
Wed 8-Jun 0745 - 1230
Fri 10-Jun 0745 - 1230
Mon 13-Jun 0745 - 1230
Tues 14-Jun 0745 - 1230
Fri 17-Jun 0745 - 1700*
Sat - Sun 18-19 June 0745 Sat to 1230 Sun
(It is compulsory for all Scouts to stay overnight and help with the clearing-up the next morning. We would like to advocate the
“All for one, one for all” spirit among our Scouts and thus, we seek the parents’ understanding and support in regards to this matter.)

Please note that the timings for the campfire preparations are subjected to change in lieu of any unforeseen events. Lunch will be provided on 17 June, lunch and dinner on 18 June.

We would also like to extend our warm invitations to all parents to join us on the 18th of June for the campfire at 1900. Further information will be provided the week before the campfire.

After the event, all regular scout trainings will cease till school reopens. Tentatively, we may be participating in 1 or 2 campfires organised by other schools.

Thank you for your kind understanding and support.

An information form will be distributed to the Scouts this coming Friday.

Warm regards,
Mr. Lincoln Chan
