Quartermasters Promotion

To ALL members of the Scout Unit,

Especially the Sec.3s and 4/5s. For those of you who have not heard for one reason or another.

Those of you who were not promoted, do not feel down. You still have your part to play as Leaders and Role-models for the Unit and by enlarge the Group (both Scout and Venture Units) but with that said it has come to my attention that some of you have not been performing up to standard at best at in worst case disrespecting and/or not cooperating with the PLs, CQM and ACQM.

It was decided last year that QMs was not a default rank/post which all Sec.3s who are not made PLs but was not strictly enforced. However, as an effort to increase the standards of the QMs, we will be enforcing them this year.

By the first week of April, the CQM and the ACQM with the help/recommendations of the PLs will provide me a list of names of Sec.3s who they feel should and should not be promoted to QMs which will be vetted and approved by Former CQM Kevin Pinto, Venture Jun Rong and myself.

QMs, like PLs are expected to turn up for all meetings including Saturdays. While those who have valid reasons for not attending Saturday may still maintain a 75% attendance rating we are looking for more in our leaders (those we promote).

QMs are expected to:
Set a good example for their juniors
Maintain the Den and Unit property
Help prepare equipment for Scouts’ training

QMs can also hold separate activities provided they have completed all other outstanding matters. These activities include:
Games/Ball games (Not too often)
Hikes and Outings outside of School
1st Class training/testing

From time to time, QMs may run regular meetings instead of PLs.

For those are not promoted to QM, your position on the hierarchy will be below that of the APLs.

Fair warning to everyone, those who are disrespectful, often absent, cause trouble or generally have poor attitudes will be removed from the Unit after fair amount of chances and warnings (including on-the-spot punishments by Leaders) have been given.

My best wishes to all of you.

Yours-in-Scouting,
SL Sivalingam Shaun

2008 Post-Orientation Camp - Aftermath, Afterglow

Hi Everyone!

I hope OC has been an exhilirating and fruitful experience for all!

To the Teachers, ALs, Ventures and Instructors, thank you for all your voluntary contributions and support you all have given the unit during the camp! Special best wishes to our newly invested GSL Mr Lincoln Chan and to AGSL and Advisor Mr Chan Siew Fook.

To the 2008 OC Committee, great effort running the show! We hope you have used this fine opportunity to hone your leadership and organizational skills as well as your team spirit. This is only a microscopic process for your leadership development. Keep budding and inspiring! Remember, if you don't improve constantly EVERYDAY - at every minute, it is as good as being a walking corpse!

As for the participants of the camp, from Sec 1 to 4s, we hope you have enjoyed your 3D2N stay in your second home - the good fun times and the exhausting (physically and mentally) ones as well! If you put ur 200% effort into this CCA (not forgetting your studies!!!!!!), this year will definitely be a fruitful and fulfilling one for us all =)

Congratulations to those who got promoted. As for those who didn't, DO NOT let disappointment set in! Work hard and learn humbly. That should be the way to go! Everyone is a leader, no matter how many times you hear this, its a fact - not a form of consolation. So set a desirable example to all scouts. Every individual will determine how successful OUR scout group becomes.

Without further ado, here are SOME pictures taken during OC 2008. Photogenic or camera-shy, I hope your face appears in the photos. If you cannot find your face, don't fret..we love your faces! We probably have them but we cannot post them all. Of course... ... there are some camera-whorRific birds. Have a wonderful year ahead! Study hard, play hard!

Cheers and God Bless,

Venture Lin Junrong
